    Ifije Ohiorhenuan, MD, PhD

Board-certified spine neurosurgeon. Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Writing on surgical workflow, imaging, clinical systems, and practical innovation.

    Biography

Dr. Ifije Ohiorhenuan is a board-certified neurosurgeon and Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center, specializing in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery. His clinical practice spans the full range of spinal disorders — from common degenerative conditions to complex deformity correction, revision surgery, and spinal tumors.

Dr. Ohiorhenuan earned his MD and PhD at Weill Cornell Medical College, where his doctoral research focused on neurophysiology and information processing in visual cortex, including work on a virtual retinal prosthetic. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Southern California and a fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute.

His academic interests bridge clinical spine surgery and the systems around it — intraoperative imaging, surgical workflow, clinical decision-making, and the responsible use of technology in practice. He publishes regularly in peer-reviewed journals and writes independently about improving care delivery and the practical intersection of surgery, imaging, and innovation.

Dr. Ohiorhenuan believes that the most meaningful innovation in medicine comes from understanding clinical problems deeply — not from applying technology for its own sake.

    Philosophy of Care

I treat every patient the way I would want my own family treated — with honesty, thoroughness, and respect for the weight of surgical decisions. My goal is not just technical excellence in the operating room, but a complete experience of care that helps patients understand their problem, their options, and what to expect at every stage.
